Public sector v private sector: Britain’s new culture war
Workers in the private sector feel punished by Covid restrictions that don’t affect those on the public payroll — and, as the end of furlough approaches, it could be about to get ugly
The article below and linked here, really highlights the way we – the private hospitality sector – have been treated. On 23rd March my industry was decimated – we all lost off our business. Our staff were furloughed. Those that made it through to October have done so on a wing and prayer that the work will come back. We had a little bit of movement, but the Government changed their minds every few weeks and clients, wisely decided that it was too much and the cancellations happened again.
I never meant to bring my cousin in as a comparison – but it does seem foolish that she is able to commute from Oxfordshire to London – yet we can’t sensibly cater an event for 30 people.
